Hitler gets a little pedantic about the 15-speed Roadranger and the meaning of double overdrive.
00:00 - 00:03 | Coming up out of Berlin loaded |
00:04 - 00:05 | there's that one steep grade |
00:05 - 00:07 | and those stoplights by the mall |
00:08 - 00:12 | hit them all and it's a bitch to get rolling again |
00:12 - 00:16 | very hard on clutches and drivelines |
00:17 - 00:19 | Pull the 15-speeds out |
00:19 - 00:22 | and swap 18s into those trucks. |
00:24 - 00:26 | Boss man- |
00:27 - 00:28 | Steiner |
00:31 - 00:33 | Steiner said keep the 15 double overs in them. |
00:34 - 00:36 | don't kill the messenger here. |
00:53 - 00:59 | Everyone running automatics and autoshifts in your divisions, OTR vans and flats, please leave |
01:13 - 01:15 | we've been over this |
01:15 - 01:17 | it's not a double overdrive, |
01:18 - 01:23 | a deep reduction 15 just has one tall overdrive |
01:25 - 01:28 | Double overdrive is two boxes, two sections |
01:29 - 01:31 | each one with an overdrive |
01:31 - 01:34 | a deep-reduction 15 speed has one overdrive |
01:34 - 01:37 | it's a glorified 10-speed |
01:37 - 01:40 | you aren't even supposed to shift out of deep reduction while moving |
01:40 - 01:42 | But "double over" is just shorthand for the tall overdrive |
01:42 - 01:46 | "Double over" means two overdrives, not a tall overdrive |
01:46 - 01:48 | Boss man, it's no big deal; everyone says that- |
01:48 - 01:52 | Use of that term is grounds to find yourself in an autoshift |
01:53 - 01:54 | This is our heritage |
01:56 - 01:57 | from the days of two sticks |
01:57 - 02:00 | Main box over and up against the dash |
02:00 - 02:03 | brownie up against the dash, the original double over |
02:04 - 02:08 | a double over 13 is a true double overdrive |
02:08 - 02:13 | overdrive in the main section and overdrive in the splitter |
02:14 - 02:16 | it actually has three overdriven gears |
02:17 - 02:21 | they weren't even created for highway trucks. 13 double over was a dump truck transmission |
02:27 - 02:30 | 13th double over was a go home empty gear |
02:30 - 02:34 | A deep reduction 15 on the other hand, a simple transmission for monkeys |
02:34 - 02:36 | do you know that 2 of gears overlap? |
02:41 - 02:42 | 15 double over |
02:43 - 02:47 | I'm tired of arguing on Facebook with imbeciles |
02:48 - 02:53 | then they try to make me look like the jerk, "overly technical." |
02:54 - 02:56 | Stories of 120 mph trucks |
02:56 - 02:59 | Do you know how much horsepower just the wind resistance would require? |
03:00 - 03:02 | 100 mph on rag tires, the "Monfort lane," |
03:04 - 03:07 | It's ok; everyone knows Monfort ran hard |
03:14 - 03:16 | What is the point anymore? |
03:19 - 03:23 | they think hard work in the '70s, driving truck and making a living |
03:25 - 03:26 | was Smokey and the Bandit |
03:31 - 03:33 | air bags on car hauler axles |
03:40 - 03:46 | now 300 inch wheelbases. We were trying to keep the corners of the trailer from kissing the sleeper. |
03:46 - 03:51 | I'm the dinosaur, but still |
03:53 - 03:59 | There's no such thing as a 15 double over. |
